Dealing with Feng Shui Master , what to expect

Like any other job, there will always be challenges and loops you have to go through, similarly during your career as a Feng Shui master. This article will break down some general Feng Shui tricks practised by Feng Shui masters in the trade. These tricks include creating a better home for clients, and challenges you may face as a master when working with clients.

Creating a better home

Individuals usually contact Feng Shui masters to seek guidance and advice for a better life, or to create a better home, using the principles of Feng ShuiFeng Shui focuses on Qi flow, which can alter the effect of one’s environment on one’s self. Another guide that ties in with Feng Shui is balancing two contrasting energies: Yin (described as feminine) and Yang (described as masculine). These two forces of energy are constantly present in our everyday lives. The balance of these forces is needed to create a harmonious living environment. Yin is usually pictured as passive, dark, and cold, while Yang is pictured as active, heat and bright. These forces are considered in Feng Shui and paired with the five elements, wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Each of the five elements focuses on a different mood and invites other purposes in the environment. For example, wood stimulates creativity while earth encourages stability. However, an excess of any particular element can also lead to adverse effects such as feeling stagnant, lacking self-esteem, or being disorganized. Therefore, a careful balance of these elements and the principles of Yin and Yang is the key to creating a conducive, comfortable living space.

Here are some general guides and tricks by Feng Shui master in creating a better home environment.

Doors

Most feng shui masters will stress the importance of the entrance or the main door of a home. Think about it as a mouth for Qi. The entryway serves as the primary path for Qi to enter. If there are objects or items in the entry direction, it blocks the smooth Qi flow from entering the home. Therefore, most masters highlight keeping the entrance clear and not having things in the way, such as big plants.

Keeping the home clutter-free is another piece of advice given by Feng Shui masters. Clutter and piles of rubbish at home, again, can impede smooth Qi flow.

Windows are also an excellent portal to invite natural light and air in, bringing in the force of nature. Air carries Qi around us, a stale airflow will result in a stagnant Qi flow.

Kitchen

Another general rule that masters will advise against is to have your stove and sink directly opposite each other. This positioning creates a clash in the fire and water elements. It negatively affects the environment and its people, and impacts relationships and health. Masters suggests that we should always place the stove against the wall for stability. The kitchen is an essential space in the home as we prepare the food we consume here. If negative Qi flow surrounds the area or stove, the food and our health will be affected.

However, do not worry that you will have to remodel the whole kitchen. A simple trick by adding other elements such as wood in between the fire and water elements can ease the clashing effect.

Bedroom

Most masters would also suggest the bed be in a commanding position. This position essentially allows you to be in control as you oversee the room. However, as sleep is a Yin activity, placing it in a Yang place, for example, near the door or window, may result in restless sleep. Having the bed in a Yin area against the wall will be optimal. As mentioned earlier, Qi comes through entryways like doors. If the bed directly faces the door, the gush of energy that hits the mattress will not allow restful sleep for the individual. Therefore, considering these factors will create a conducive sleep environment.

These, however, are general application rules when conducting home consultations. As mentioned in the previous articles, many factors determine a person’s circumstances. Different Feng Shui practices may fit other individuals. It is best to create a tailored solution for respective clients, by considering their Bazi etc.

Dealing with Clients

Being a Feng Shui master naturally requires one to engage with a diverse range of individuals in their career. When you engage with various people with different personalities, there will bound to be adversity faced during the time of your career as a Feng Shui Master.

Unpleasant Circumstances

When people seek out Feng Shui Masters, it is often to improve their lives or change some regrettable setbacks. Some situations can get tricky when clients get visibly emotional or distressed during the process, whether from negative reading or sharing unpleasant memories. It is crucial to stay calm, show empathy and provide support. Give time for the client to release these pent-up emotions before moving on to your expertise in Feng Shui to support your client through the change.

“You are lying.”

A common issue that one may experience when practising Feng Shui is for clients to discredit you.

“It did not happen.”

“Nothing you said changed.”

Comments like this could come up and can be disheartening for masters who take their trade seriously. Sometimes, the lack of effect could be due to the lack of action on the client’s part. Nothing will magically transform because you move the sofa two inches to the right. The principle of Feng Shui is to maximize the potential of your environment to attract certain qualities in life. However, action needs to be taken on the individual’s part to make things work. For instance, you can’t just expect to land a job without seeking one.

When this happens, we can firstly express and acknowledge the clients’ frustrations. Start to problem-solve together. Ask about the course of action after the initial consultation and what has been done. Suggest 2-3 steps for the client to take for the next couple of months.

It will also be helpful to set out clear expectations from the start. For example, the time frame to see results, actions from the clients, etc. to ensure everyone is on the same page.

Clients are not listening to advice.

Sometimes, the result of the consultation may not always be rainbows and flowers. Some clients may not take it well, as it can be something that is not pleasant to the ears. It is not easy to convince clients if they refuse to accept the reality. Be mindful of the tone of voice you are using when dealing with sensitive issues. It will also be helpful to provide positive suggestions and find the silver lining in this situation. Nevertheless, it is also essential to be honest with your client, reassuring them that you will provide support and work on this journey together.

These are some of the tricks you can use during the course of your career as a Feng Shui master. We wish you the best of luck in pursuing your journey in the world of Feng Shui!
